Despite the second half success, Greenwood is hoping for an earlier, and stronger, start in the games to come. "We're kind of used to winning, we had a 16-3 record last year. It was just in their nature to work hard, play hard and win," she said. "But today, they expected a win in their first game. I told them, if you want to win you have to work hard, it's not just going to come to you and I guess they got a little fire inside of them." The Panthers not only introduced Katie to the varsity level but goalie Jordan Vitale BY LARISSA FORESE THE OCEAN STAR POINT BORO Freshman Katie Conway stole the show for the Panthers on March 30, in Point Boro's season opener at home, netting a game-high seven goals.

Boro defeated the Brick Township Dragons 17-6 thanks to Conway and the six additional Panthers that scored in the victory. "I knew that she was going to be a huge threat on the field, but we also have great attackers. They all gel really from playing together in the offseason and she's just a great addition to them," said Point Boro head coach Lauren Greenwood. The Panthers had a slow start to the game as another freshman, Kyley Toye of Brick Township, controlled the draw and moved her way through the defense for the 1-o lead. Kasey Wilson recorded some key saves for Brick be who had two saves in the victory.

"There were nerves in the first half, but I finally was at ease and able to start saving some and that gave me more confidence," said Vitale. Possession went back and fourth before the game was sent into halftime at 7-5 in Boro's favor. The two-point game quickly changed as the Panthers had an offensive surge, led by Conway.

Just 30 seconds into the half, she netted her third goal to put the Panthers ahead, 8-5. Two minutes later, she scored her fourth. "In the first half, we weren't playing together but in the second, everyone worked better together," said Conway. "The attack did better and we were able to score more." After the back-to-back scoring by Conway, Boro scored five consecutive goals, outscoring Brick 10-1 in the second half. "Knowing how we played in the first half and how it was a two-goal game, we know we could do it," said Brick Township head coach Corinne Chiarella.

"We had a lot of turnovers and missed shots in the first half, so if we minimize those and capitalize on our shots, I think it would have been a different game." The Dragons have improved since last season's meeting with the Panthers, only allowing one additional goal and scoring two more compared to last year. Toye led the Dragons with a hat trick in her first varsity outing, while Oliveira, French and Ally Lipyanek added one goal apiece.
